What Invisalign Can Do
Before we explain how Invisalign works and why you might prefer it to metal braces, we want you to know what Invisalign can do.
Invisalign is a great option for people with mild or moderate tooth alignment issues. Millions of people fall into this category, which means Invisalign can help lots of people, too.
So what kinds of problems are we talking about, specifically?
▪︎ Crooked teeth
▪︎ Crowded teeth
▪︎ Teeth with gaps between them
▪︎ Teeth with underbites
▪︎ Teeth with crossbites
▪︎ Teeth with open bites
▪︎ Teeth with overbites
The purpose of any orthodontic treatment is to make your teeth straighter. This certainly is good for the appearance of your smile, but it may not be the most important reason to straighten your teeth.
When your teeth are in line, they are easier to clean. You can brush your teeth on all sides without one tooth interfering with how well you can clean another.
You can fit floss between your teeth more easily when your teeth aren’t crowded together. And you are less likely to grind your teeth together when they are in proper alignment.
But there is still another reason you may want to consider Invisalign.
We can’t tell you how many times we have had patients visit us who were embarrassed to share the smiles because they did not like their teeth. By the end of their treatment with Invisalign, many of them were holding their heads higher.
Improving their smiles improved their self-confidence as well.
Could Invisalign do the same for you? To find out, start by calling 561-877-3802 to make an appointment with Dr. Rosenblatt today!
How Invisalign Is Different Than Braces
You may not have worn braces yourself, but you still have an idea how they work.
Brackets are bonded to the patient’s teeth. An archwire runs between those brackets. Throughout your treatments, braces are adjusted to push and pull teeth. This keeps them moving gradually until they reach their final positions.
Anyone who has worn braces can tell that this can be uncomfortable for more than one reason. Each adjustment can hurt. Some people find the brackets scratchy, and if a wire breaks, it can poke into the soft tissue of your mouth.
Invisalign does away with the brackets and wires and replaces them with a series of plastic aligners. Each set of aligners is custom-made for each patient.
The aligners gently push your teeth, and you change aligners every few weeks to keep your teeth moving.
That explains the functional differences between these orthodontic options, but what other benefits will you get with Invisalign?
▸ The aligners are clear.
Invisalign has been called “clear braces” for a reason. When you slip the transparent aligners over your teeth, most people won’t notice you are wearing them.
▸ Each aligner is made of a single piece of smooth plastic.
That means no scratchy edges and no small pieces to break.
▸ The aligners are removable.
You do need to wear your aligners most of the time (22 hours per day during your treatment), but you can take them out during meals and to brush and floss your teeth.
That means you can keep eating ALL the foods that you like, and you don’t need special tools to keep your mouth clean and healthy.
